Blogger update

I think I said a while back that I would either copy my Blogger entries here or at least mention that I posted there. My LJ is mostly for fandom type stuff or at least stuff that isn't super personal, and my Blogger is basically for updates on my life.

So if you want to see a video of my cat singing and my husband being silly with me, click here.

1. Pick up the nearest book.
2. Open to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences (in your own journal!).
5. Tag five people. Do it if you want.

Nearest book: 20 Compelling Evidences that God Exists

"If Jesus said that Jews should pay the tax to Caesar, His answer would be construed as capitulating to the foreign, pagan enemy. If, on the other hand, Jesus said that the Jews should not pay the tax to Caesar, His answer would be reported to the Roman authorities as treasonous. Jesus' response was masterful."

I'm not tagging anyone, but do it if you like books! :)

Four icons requested by [info]xandgunn

I adore Giles and I adore tea, so naturally I decided to make an icon out of this picture! ♥

The Cat From Outer Space. I love both science fiction and cats, so I really enjoyed this movie as a kid. I have a somewhat worn out VHS copy that I recorded ages ago, and I still watch it once in a while. It's still a fun movie.

"A Piece of the Action." Classic episode of TOS! When Kirk and Spock play dress up, you really can't go wrong. Plus Spock trying to get the hang of mobster speak is pretty priceless.

Billy the blue Power Ranger. He was my first major crush, at least that I can remember. As you can see, I've always been into super intelligent guys. Bonus points if they wear glasses and even more bonus points if they're sweethearts like Billy.

For [info]shoebox_addict, who picked 5 icons instead of 4, but that's totally ok with me. I wouldn't mind talking about all my icons!

I love pretty much all animals, especially big cats. Lions have been my favorite animal ever since I saw the Lion King as a kid. In fact, I organized a group consisting of me, my brothers, and a few neighborhood kids called "The Pride" where we all had "lion names." I'm pretty sure mine was Elsa, after the lioness in Born Free.

Ah, The Producers. I've never seen the original, and honestly I don't really think I want to. Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick are just brilliant in this movie. No matter how many times I see it, I still laugh just as hard. Their comedic timing is excellent and their wonderful chemistry makes their performances a joy to behold.
Edit: I just watched this clip from the original movie, and I have to say I think the comedy was much improved in the new movie.

Back to the Future is definitely in my top 5 favorite movies. My favorite character was always Doc because he's smart and bookish. My icon is actually from my least favorite of the trilogy, for some reason. I think the first movie is probably my favorite, then part III and then part II.

I love Firefly. I have a parasol similar to the one Kaylee has in this picture that I won at a Shindig.

If I had to pick a favorite movie genre, I think I'd have to go with musicals. I LOVE them. Singin' in the Rain is one of the best ones ever. This is just one of the many hilarious lines in the movie.

LJ vs Blogger

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
books - jackpot
I don't know, maybe I should just repost my Blogger entries here? There are things I like about both sites, I can't figure it out. Blogger seems more accessible to the general population than LJ. My parents never read my blog until I moved to Blogger, for example.

PS: Spuffy is love!

I'm not sure why I didn't announce this earlier. My new Blogger page is here.

I'm using my Spike icon because I had a dream last night that included him and Buffy holding hands or something like that. I don't really remember, but it was cute. Spuffy forever! ♥

I'm having trouble finding a journal/blog system that works for me. That's probably pretty obvious considering how rarely I post these days. I'm trying a few other sites right now. Blogger is looking pretty promising, but I miss having userpics.

I'm terrible at keeping up with friend pages now because I'm oddly busy even though when I think about it I can't imagine why. It's not like I have a social life or anything.

I just love this icon. I ♥ Doc.

Anyway, I've been kind of busy lately. I'm still working at a fast food place, which doesn't really keep me "busy" since they only give me 20 hours a week, but I've also started doing something else that I'm rather excited about. My Dad is teaching an online class called "Intro to Apologetics" for ReclaimingTheMind.org, and I've been listening in and taking notes. I also explored the site a little bit and it turns out that you can take every course in their Theology Program as a self-study thing for free. You don't get a certificate for it, obviously, but it's good if you are just interested in learning.

I would love to get the certificate, but I don't have the money to actually enroll. Still, I'm excited about what I'm going to learn and I think it will be helpful for me because I'll be able to get a sense of what going to college to study the Bible would be like and I'll find out if it's really something I'm passionate enough about to enjoy all the classes and do well in them.

I'm also reading a terrific book called The Five Love Languages which I would recommend to anyone who is married or ever hopes to get married some day.

Cloverfield

I just got back from seeing Cloverfield. If you haven't seen it yet and are trying to decide if it's worth it, it is! It's extremely well done. I don't really want to go into specifics because I went into it without seeing or hearing anything about it besides a short teaser trailer, and it's best that way. The less you know about it beforehand, the better.

Plus there was a teaser trailer for the next Star Trek movie!!! :D

Computer issue

I posted this in a computer help community, but I'll post it here as well in case any of you can help me.

The color on my computer is messed up. On the desktop, internet explorer, and pictures pasted into Word, the color looks normal. But in Photoshop and in the computer's default photo viewer, the color is wrong. This prevents me from being able to make graphics in Photoshop because I don't know what the color will actually look like, and it's annoying when I'm just simply trying to view pictures. How can I fix it? Here's some information about my computer:

Windows Vista Home Premium
Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2180 @ 2.00GHz
1.87 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 7100 / NVIDIA nForce 630i

Here's a screencap of how the color messes up. )

Lack of entries

Did I mention that I have a new computer? I got a new computer a week or two ago. I love Windows Vista! But it still doesn't have internet because I can't afford a wireless card for it yet. (I'm writing from my husband's laptop now.) So I only get on here for a few minutes at a time, mostly just to check my e-mail and MTS2 and transfer any new Sims downloads that I want over to my new computer. I actually started making journal entries in a Word document on my new computer instead of writing over here. I don't know how long it will be until I get a wireless internet card, but I hope it's soon!

PS: I chose this icon because I'm watching Buffy season 6 for the first time and last night I saw the episode Seeing Red. I cried.

Shoebox Project

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Oh my.

Because I adore the Marauders and because [info]shoebox_addict's username constantly reminds me that I've been missing out on something that 9,613 Marauder fans have apparently fallen in love with, I have finally read part one of The Shoebox Project. My goodness, it's brilliant! I was hooked from the very beginning. If the rest of it is anywhere near as good, there will be another "Shoebox Addict" around here.

One question, though. I see that the interests section lists Remus/Sirius. Can I assume there will be slashiness to come? If so, how much? I picked up on the subtext in part one, but I can deal with stuff like that. Do they actually get together later on?

I just saw Alvin and the Chipmunks in the theater. It was actually pretty darn cute. I enjoyed it. I still want to see Sweeny Todd because I love musicals, but I'm worried about the intense violence. Of course, David has no interest in seeing it, which probably means I won't see it in the theater.

And now he wants the laptop back so I have to finish.
